Through collaboration with our research and medical partners, Early Engagement advances research into paternal perinatal mental health and father-focused interventions, with the goal of understanding the benefits of father perinatal preparation on pregnancy health, the marital bond, and the child’s longterm well-being.
Three main factors that affect first time fathers’ mental health and wellbeing during their transition to fatherhood were identified: the formation of the fatherhood identity, competing challenges of the new fatherhood role and negative feelings and fears relating to it.
